Encompassing the breadth of Cheryl Boyce-Taylor’s astounding career, The Limitless Heart explores questions of immigration, motherhood, and queer sensuality, among other themes.

Grief is central in Boyce-Taylor’s poetry as she weaves hybrids of memoir and verse celebrating the life of her late son, Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor of A Tribe Called Quest.

The cover of The Limitless Heart features a mixed media portrait based on a photograph made in my studio. Cheryl is holding one of my painted books, and the image that became the cover art was actually collaged and painted into that very same book.

Elana Bell’s debut collection of poetry, Eyes, Stones (LSU Press 2012), was selected by Fanny Howe as the winner of the 2011 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets. Bell draws on her experience as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and uses oral history modalities to consider the full complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
